Why PersonalEYES?

PersonalEYES Vision Care is a locally owned, independent Grand Rapids, Michigan optometric practice where deep experience, the latest technology, the most comprehensive range of products and personalized service combine to provide the very best in eyecare.

We give you and your eyes the attention you deserve. We’re committed to investing in technology and equipment to achieve the most sophisticated level of eye examinations. Why settle for less?

Continuity of Care

Like any healthcare service, seeing the same optometrist over time means that we understand your history and can monitor even minor changes in your eye health and vision. This helps us provide you with proactive treatment to preserve your eye health and also often signals other health issues that may need to be addressed. Periodic eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss.

Independence Means Quality and Choice

Our independence means that we’re not constrained by corporate guidelines and franchise arrangements limiting our choices of brands and frame selection. When it comes to eyeglass frames and lenses, you get what you pay for. There are vast differences in quality, and we won’t compromise the health of your eyes with inferior products. Due to our independence, we’ve been able to develop a robust group of suppliers to create one of the Grand Rapids area’s largest and best selection of eyeglass frames and contact lens options. We will take ‘Personal-ized’ care of you to make sure that you can see your best and look your best!

Full Service Primary Eye Care

Think of us as your primary eye care doctors, much like you’d think of your dentist for oral health and primary care doctor for general health. We can take care of most anything when it comes to your eyes, no matter your age! Our office houses the latest technology for assessment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. Dr. Spears is an outstanding professional who stays current in the latest trends, technology and techniques in vision care and eye health. He has many years experience fitting contacts for conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, or simply for someone who would like to be free from reading glasses. Dr. Spears is personable and able to thoroughly examine children of any age.

Partnering with the Best

When necessary, we partner with the best in the Grand Rapids area for cataract surgery, retinal surgery, eyelid and plastic surgery, pediatric vision therapy, pediatric eye surgery and more. We value the relationships with our partnering providers, our community and our patients!

State-of-the-Art Technology

We value your eye health and have recently made a large investment in it! We have an instrument called optical coherence tomography (OCT) that produces high definition images of the layers of the retina (light sensitive ‘film’ inside the eye). Often compared to an MRI or CT scan, OCT images provide stunning details of retinal structures that are not visible with other examination techniques or tests. This is important because it enables the doctor to detect very early signs of vision-threatening disease, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and others. When diagnosed early, these conditions are easier to treat, slowing progression and often avoiding vision loss.

Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Early on, you might not notice any change in your vision, but irreversible damage could be taking place. This is why regular eye exams including a thorough evaluation of the retina are so important. We’re trying to pick up signs of disease before permanent damage can occur.

When eye disease is discovered, it means that eye health should be followed more closely. Offering a three-dimensional picture of the inside retina and retinal layers, OCT allows our doctors to make more informed decisions regarding treatment or evaluation of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and much more.
